Difficulty understanding ghost, the occult, and Christianity...?

Ok, I am only 16 and yet I've been in the church all my life. I do believe in God and have asked for salvation and can name many things in the Bible. My issue is is that I like watching things like Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters and stuff. I do believe that people and maybe even demonic spirits are around us and can move things or make us believe different things. I've discussed this with people at my church and they ridiculed me for this. If someone can help me with understanding the occult, ghost, and how this either conflicts or whatever with Christianity, it would be very helpful.
