Is it possible to mutate and combine a virus?

I'm just thinking if we combine a easily infectious virus and rabies then, I'll mutate it ten to twenty times to make it more deadly and a little touch of cannibalistic mind disorder... I just made a perfect virus to zombify a human! Is it possible?
