What were the principal ways in which the Easter Islanders depleted the resources of their Environment?

They spent much of their time and energy creating those impressive statues. They were a form of competition amongst local tribes. Warfare is believed to have also played a part as some of the statues were desecrated. Additionally, the island was deforested as well, leading to soil erosion and the inability to grow crops at a sustainable level for their population.
